In-Person Professional Forum:
New Directions in Research Assessment in Service of the Researchers
On October 9, 2025, the CoARA National Chapter Hungary organised its first independent, full-day professional forum, held in person. The event will focus on researchers, aiming to showcase the reforms and innovations taking place in research assessment.
Hosted in cooperation by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA), the HUN-REN Headquarters, and the CoARA Boost Project, the event presented opportunities for reforming research assessment through both Hungarian and international examples. Keynote speaker, László Kollár, stressed that preserving the credibility and transparency of science is a collective responsibility.
"During scientific research, instead of the quantity of knowledge, we are increasingly looking at the countable result. The measurement result has often become the goal itself, thereby becoming an easily manipulated, substitute indicator."
- László Kollár, Secretary-General of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
The forum confirmed that research assessment reform along the lines of the CoARA principles is crucial for Hungary, which can contribute to the development of a more ethical, equitable, and effective research culture. As a follow-up to the event, the CoARA Hungarian National Chapter plans to hold a regional international forum in 2026 at the HUN-REN Headquarters and warmly welcomes this year's conference participants.
Stay tuned for more information in an upcoming CoARA News blog recapping the event!
